What is the number of qualified applications?
You can divide all candidates who apply for a specific job into qualified and unqualified. Qualified candidates are those who match your criteria for a particular job. If you want to get more qualified applications, check out these tips. 👇
What influences the number of qualified applications?
Number of qualified applications is mostly influenced by the description of work tasks, necessary qualifications and screening questions you ask.
Work tasks description
Always write what are the main tasks a person will be doing in this role. Make that description clear and easy to understand. The better you explain to candidates what their working day will look like, the easier it will be for them to assess if this is really the job for them. That way you will automatically reduce the number of candidates who will not be suitable for the job.
List of necessary qualifications
Another thing you need to write in the description are the qualifications you expect from your candidates. Be careful, if you list a lot of necessary qualifications, there is a possibility that you will have fewer applications. Think about what is more important to you – the number of applied candidates or whether they match all the qualifications. If you have a somewhat longer list of qualifications, consider dividing them into must-have and nice-to-have qualifications. Our recommendation is to stick to 4-6 must-have qualifications and write them in bullets for better organization of the text.
Screening questions
Screening questions are a great tool that can help you get more qualified applicants. If you ask a closed type of question (single choice or multiple choice), at the end of the application process you can filter the candidates according to the answers they chose. This can be very useful when you have an exclusive criteria in the selection process. E.g. Do you have previous work experience in the same or similar jobs? (yes/no).
When you’re writing your screening questions, pay attention to the tone of communication, because this can also influence the number of conversions. Here are some examples of good selection questions asked by employers at DING:
- Tell us something about your experience. If you don’t have any, just give us high five 👏 (open-ended)
- What motivated you to apply to this job ad? Write as much as you want. 🙂 (open-ended)
- It is important to us that our employers fit into our chill atmosphere. 🤪. That’s why we would like you to fill out your DING profile, so we can get to know you better. Did you do it? (single choice, yes/no)
